The Matterhorn, the most photographed mountain in the Alps
Isolated on every side, the Matterhorn — Cervin in French, Cervino in Italian — raises its four faces and four ridges on the border between the Swiss Valais and the Aosta Valley. Its first ascent, in 1865 by Edward Whymper's rope party, marked the end of the golden age of alpinism and the beginning of a fascination that has never faded. To this day, visitors from all over the world travel to Zermatt or the Gornergrat to photograph it at sunrise.

An exact relief, from Swiss swisstopo data
The Matterhorn lamp is modelled on swissALTI3D, the digital terrain model of the Swiss Federal Office of Topography swisstopo, accurate to 2 m. Every ridge, every combe, every valley sits exactly where it belongs: the Hörnli ridge running down towards Zermatt, the sheer faces, the glacial valleys sloping away at the foot of the pyramid. This is not scenery inspired by the mountain — it is the mountain itself, to scale, on about 15 cm in diameter.
The base is pear wood, hand-turned by L'Atelier du Mont in Le Chinaillon; the relief is printed in corn-starch bioplastic (PLA), which becomes translucent once the LED is lit. Adjustable brightness, USB powered, engraved serial number: each lamp is hand-finished in our workshop in Thônes, Haute-Savoie.
